Bayanne
House was originally at the centre of a small estate created in the
late 18th century by the Hoseason family of Yell. Many changes in
fortune and ownership have resulted in its present extent of only
4.5 acres on the shores of Basta Voe. This small parcel of relatively
rich inbye agricultural land supports an enormous range of local flora
and fauna. |

The
croft is designated as an Environmentally Sensitive Area because of
this diversity of wildlife and is managed in an ecologically friendly
way. Visitors can walk along the beach and watch for otters, seals
and wading birds or stroll around the croft looking for wild flowers.
